Newsletter of the Commonwealth Network of Information Technology for Development |
Y2K Global Readiness Survey by the International Y2K Cooperation Center (a UN/World Bank funded organisation setup in 1999)
Based on the responses from National Y2K Coordinators, the International Y2K Cooperation Center has developed 7 regional sector readiness charts with public data for 78 nations out of the 195 contacted.
NOTE: Nations may complete the survey (also available online) and request their data be kept private.
IY2KCC also includes links to known Y2K web sites and national Y2K co-ordinators through which more detailed information on sector status and contingency planning may be acquired. IY2KCC promises to add extra country readiness information as soon as it is received from reporting national coordinators and intends to actively monitor and report the actual status of nations through
the danger period beginning in December 1999. This is a useful web site to bookmark and re-visit!
Based on the detailed survey results as at end September 1999 (see latest data via the Country Information tab at www.iy2kcc.org homepage), a simplified abstract for the Commonwealth has been prepared. Since most nations claim their Y2K projects will be 90% or more complete before the publication of this newsletter, the project schedules are not included here except where last quarter completion is reported. The information made public for each sector's reliance on technology has been reproduced as this is considered an important factor both internally and internationally.
Should any nations wish to update the information shown here, they are advised to contact both COMNET-IT and the International Y2K Cooperation Center. It is hoped that public disclosure will become more commonplace to assist all in contingency planning.
